The Creative Spirit Festival began in 2014 and is co-sponsored by Watermark and WIllow Wood Market. The festival explores a variety of fiber arts, including basketry, cavandoli, knitting, needle felting, quilting, rug hooking, spinning, and tatting, to name a few!. There are hands on demos, educational classes, trunk shows, door prizes and more There is also a vendor market with an average of 14 craft businesses that is a great shopping opportunity
Registration now open for classes at the Creative Spirit Fiber Festival in Bemidji
BEMIDJI, MN – Watermark Art Center and Willow Wood Market present the sixth annual Creative Spirit Fiber Festival on Friday, February 22, 5 – 9 p.m. (classes only) and Saturday, February 23, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. at Calvary Lutheran Church.
Registration for Friday evening classes opens Sunday, January 20th. This year, participants of all ages are invited to learn hardanger with Roz Watnemo, cavandoli with Karen-lisa Forbes, knitting with Liz Towers, quilling with Cari Tabor and rug hooking with Bonnie Lundorff. Pre-registration for Friday is required. Space is limited, so register soon by contacting Bonnie at 218-759-2310 or bonnie@willowwoodmarketdesigns.com. Friday classes are only $20/person and includes admission to Saturday’s festival. Additional materials fees may apply.
On Saturday, just $10 admission includes a vendor market filled with fiber-related items, mini classes taught by experienced instructors, coffee and homemade treats, door prizes, demos, hands-on learning opportunities and trunk shows. Lunch will be available for purchase, with proceeds supporting the Calvary Lutheran Church Youth mission trip.
Featured presenters on Saturday will be Quilt Historian & Appraiser Sue Harmon and Fiber Artist Karen E. Goulet. Sue Harmon has over forty years of experience as a quilt teacher, shop owner, lecturer, quilt historian and appraiser. She will present “A Quilt Walk” - a trunk show highlighting quilts from the 1800s to present. Karen E. Goulet is an accomplished fiber artist and the Miikanan Gallery Program Director at Watermark Art Center. She will present a trunk show on the history of Star Quilts in Native American culture.
Saturday’s class schedule includes mini courses on crochet, knitting, quilt techniques, rug hooking, spool knitting, weaving, wet felting, wool feather trees and more. No registration needed for Saturday classes, but they are first come, first serve. The knitting lounge will also be open throughout the day; bring your current project to work on in a comfortable atmosphere.
