Description

Hispanic/Latinx Month 2020 Lecture by Dr. Dan Allosso, Assistant Professor of History. Why are statues of Columbus coming down during anti-racist protests? Who was Columbus? Why has he been honored for centuries as the “Discoverer of America”, only to be vilified in recent years as a genocidal imperialist, when neither assessment is accurate? In this talk, we will address these questions and explore the controversies around the figure of Christopher Columbus.
